Charles Coventry's individual score was equalled with Saeed Anwar

Charles Coventry of Zimbabwe equalled the highest individual score of 194* runs with Saeed Anwar of Pakistan.Charles Coventry made this glitzy knock against Bangladesh in the 4th ODI of Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe in August 16th 2009.Charles Coventry’s 194 runs include 16 fours and 7 sixes in 156 deliveries.

Zimbabwe, batted first took 312 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs.Charles Coventry’s remarkable innings went in vain since Tamim Iqbal of Bangladesh took 154 runs in 138 deliveries and led Bangladesh an easy victory in 47.5 overs.

Saeed Anwar scored 194 against India in Chennai in 1997. However, Saeed Anwar was out on this individual score while Coventry was unbeaten on 194.

Charles Coventry not only equalled Saeed Anwar’s record but also surpassed the highest ODI score by a Zimbabwean. Craig Wishart scored 172 runs unbeaten against Namibia in Harare at the 2003 World Cup.

The controversial Underarm bowling incident of 1981 occurred on 1 February 1981 between Australia and New Zealand in the final of the Benson and Hedges World series cup at the Melbourne cricket ground.New Zealand needed 6 runs to tie in that match in the last remaining ball.And the Australian bowler Trevor Chappell bowled the last ball in the under arm action inorder to prevent the batsman from hitting a six.This action was technically legal, but seen as being against the spirit of the game.

New Zealand needed six runs off the last ball and the captain of Australia Greg Chappell told to the bowler Trevor Chappell (Greg’s brother) to bowl an underarm action in which the ball roles along the pitch to the New Zealand batsman Brian McKechnie.This prevented the batsman for a chance to hit the six.At that time “underarm” action was within the laws of cricket.

After this “underarm” incident,the then prime minister of New Zealand,Rob Muldoon said to the media that this is the most disgusting incident in the history of cricket.

As a result of this incident underarm bowling was banned in limited over cricket games by the International Cricket Council as “not within the spirit of the game”.

Yuvraj Singh

India’s Yuvraj Singh has reached in the second spot of the ICC ODI ranking.He jumped to the second spot as a batsman for his good performance against the recent series against West Indies in which India became victorious for 2-1.

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni still in the number one spot because of his excellent performance in the series against West Indies.He was selected as the player of the tournament in that series for scoring 41,95 and 46 in the 1st,2nd and 3rd ODIs respectively.

Dhoni now leads Yuvraj by a 44-point margin.The third and fourth position were laid by Chandrapaul and Chris Gayle respectively.India’s Gautham Gambhir were dropped to four places down to 20th spot.

India vs West Indies,3rd ODI,St Lucia

India beat West Indies in the 3rd ODI at St Lucia.India won the match by the D/L method.The third ODI was a rain interrupted game and India needed 11 runs off the final over and the Indian captain M S Dhoni lead his side to victory with one more ball to spare.

The rain interrupted the game at regular intervals and the India’s target were adjusted to 195 runs in 27 overs which was again reduced to 159 in 22 overs due to further shower.

Dinesh Karthik got out after taking 47 runs and then India needed 111 runs from 89 balls.At last due to the lost of quick wickets India needed 34 runs from the last 4 overs.yusuf Pathan and M S Dhoni made India victorious with one more ball to spare in which they needed 11 runs from the last over of Jerome Taylor and Dhoni hit a six in the 2nd ball to the deep midwicket which lead an easy victory for India at the end.

Ramnaresh Sarwan was the top scorer for his side who took 62 runs.Captain Gayle had also played his part who took 27 runs from 14 balls.They set a very good total of 189 runs in 27 overs.
