The hook shot in cricket is said to be potentially, the most dangerous shot to play in cricket.The hook shot is played to a short delivery between chest and head height.
Tips to play a hook shot in cricket
Quick foot work is needed to play this shot perfectly.As the backswing begins, the head, shoulders and back foot move back and across.
Don’t take your eyes from the ball when you are playing this shot, if so, you are likely to be hit on the chest or on the helmet.wearing Helmet is recommended while playing this shot.
The front leg is moved back and towards the leg side, forming the base for the shot with the head slightly forward.Judge the bounce and line of the ball correctly.
At the time of connecting with the ball, the arms should swing through the line of the ball and it should be fully extended.
The follow through will sometimes see both feet move round and point towards the path of the shot.Otherwise the front leg will be raised off the ground, with your weight pivoting on the back foot.The follow through will depend upon the impact of the shot.

Pull shot is an aggressive scoring shot in cricket played off the back foot towards the leg-side off a short pitched delivery.This shot is different from hook shot since it is played on or around waist high and the pull shot is comparatively easier than hook shot.
Pull shot tips
Step 1
- Quickness in Foot work is very important to play this shot especially that of the fast bowlers, otherwise you will get hurt or lose your wicket, probably by getting caught.
- As your backswing begins, the head, shoulders and back foot move back and across.
Step 2
- Your front leg is moved back and towards the leg side, forming the base for the shot with the head slightly forward.
Step 3
- Pull shot is a cross batted shot while connecting with the ball in front of the body
- Always try to hit the ball downwards which will help you avoid being caught out.Try and roll the wrists at the moment of contact with the ball.
- At the time of the pull shot, your weight is transferred on to the front leg and keep your head still throughout the follow through of the shot which will help you in balance and perfect timing of the shot.

Back-foot drive as the name suggests is played off the back foot and it is usually played between mid-off and cover.To play a perfect back-foot drive you must need a good balance and quick feet movement.

The cover drive is a scoring cricket shot which as the name suggests, it is played between mid-off and cover.
Correct judgement is needed to play this shot since the ball is going to be slightly full of a good length.Misjudgement will cause you caught out.
From your normal batting stance lead with your shoulder towards the line of the ball and into the shot.This will help you to connect with the ball with much ease.
Step with your front foot towards the pitch of the delivery and bring your bat down and through the line of the delivery.Make sure that you keep your front elbow high and bat straight (not a crossed batted shot). Aim to place the ball between mid off and cover, maintaining a firm base and follow through the shot in a relaxed manner.

Straight drive is played for a full length delivery pitching on middle or off stump.
Leaning forward
Lean in with the front shoulder, the left if you are a right-handed batsman and vice-versa, with your eyes on the ball.To play a straight drive the basic foot work is the extended front foot and a bent front knee.You have to raise the bat to get enough back swing to give yourself enough force when connecting with the cricket ball.
Position of the head
To play the straight drive to perfection your head must be level or ahead of the front knee, with the back foot raised up to the toes.The cricket bat is accelerated vertically.
Position of the bat
The bat must have to accelerate in a straight path pointing to the sky.
Follow Through
A high follow through ensures good contact has been made with the ball.The face of the cricket bat must be angled towards the ground which help to keep the ball down and also avoid being caught out.

A drive is a straight batted shot in cricket played by swinging the bat in a vertical arc through the line of the ball.Depending upon the direction of the ball driven the drive shots can be classified into
- Square Drive:-Struck towards Point
- Cover Drive:-Driven towards the cover fielding position
- Off Drive:-Hit towards mid-off
- On drive:-Struck towards wide mid-on and mid wicket
- Straight Drive:-Driven past the bowler
