Pull shot is an aggressive scoring shot in cricket played off the back foot towards the leg-side off a short pitched delivery. This shot is different from hook shot since it is played on or around waist high and the pull shot is comparatively easier than hook shot.

Pull shot tips

Step 1

  • Quickness in Foot work is very important to play this shot especially that of the fast bowlers, otherwise you will get hurt or lose your wicket, probably by getting caught.
  • As your backswing begins, the head, shoulders and back foot move back and across.

Step 2

  • Your front leg is moved back and towards the leg side, forming the base for the shot with the head slightly forward.

Step 3

  • Pull shot is a cross batted shot while connecting with the ball in front of the body
  • Always try to hit the ball downwards which will help you avoid being caught out.Try and roll the wrists at the moment of contact with the ball.
  • At the time of the pull shot, your weight is transferred on to the front leg and keep your head still throughout the follow through of the shot which will help you in balance and perfect timing of the shot.
