“Super over” is actually a tie breaker in T20 cricket which means if both the teams’ total are tied then each team can again play a “Mini-match” in only one over. Each team can select 3 batsmen and a bowler to play the mini-match.This match consists of only 1 over. The batting team consists of only 2 wickets. The two teams has to bowl with the same ball. The team who takes maximum runs in the super over will be considered as the winner of the match.

The team who has batted second in the real match will have to bat first in the super over.If again the scores are tied then wickets of the team are considered which means the team which has lost maximum wickets in the super over will lost the match. If that too are tied then the team who smashed maximum number of sixes in the complete match including the super over will be considered as the winner. If that too are in level then the number of fours are taken into consideration.Super over is also called as “Eliminator“.

This “Super Over” has been first used in a match between West Indies and New Zealand in 2008 December in which West Indies team became victorious.

For the West Indies, the batsmen were Gayle, Marshall and Chanderpaul and bowler for New Zealand was Vettori.West Indies scored 25/1 from their super over. All the runs were scored by Gayle.

So New Zealand had to score 26 from their Super Over to win the match. For New Zealand, the batsmen were Oram, McCullum and Taylor and Benn was the bowler for West Indies.New Zealand were all out for 15 and West Indies won the match by 10 runs.
